Our Story

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just 25 people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. His simple, yet sound, biblical approach drew 25,000 people weekly.

With a sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers, generating a movement of the Holy Spirit that spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and now, throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 1,800 fellowships throughout the world.

Pastor Ed Hickey after serving in two different Greater Vancouver Area churches, stepped out in faith to plant Calvary Chapel Sunshine Coast in 1999 in their living room.  Over the next 15 years Pastor Ed witnessed the faithfulness of the Lord to build the church. He saw healthy growth, a building purchase and raised up other men for the ministry. In 2014 Pastor Ed resigned as Senior Pastor and handed CCSC over to Pastor Michael Cyr who continues to serve there to this day. 

In the summer of 2014, Pastor Ed and his family moved to London Ontario with the desire to plant a new church. In October of 2014, Calvary Chapel London began.  After 8 years, in 2022 Pastor Ed and Cheryl felt God calling them back to B.C to begin yet another work. Pastor Ed handed CCL over to Pastor Justin Hickey who had joined him on this venture of faith back in 2014. Pastor Justin continues to serve as our Senior Pastor today.

We have seen God's goodness within our church, from salvation's, spontaneous baptisms, the incredible story of how the Lord provided our building (you'll have to ask us that story!), and so much more. The Lord continues to grow our church family, and we are so filled with joy to see how He is touching the lives of those in London and beyond!
